Visual appropriation ( 1940 parliment house)

1. What changes have you made? I have added colour to the picture i have also added pictures of stuff which Australia didnt know about back in the 1940’s e.g.  new cars and animals which have recently been imported from different countries like the kiwi. I also showed the cedar tree which used to only eb able to grow in Lebanon

2. Why? What does it tell us about changes in Australia? I added colour to show that technology has been developed since the 1940’s. I added features like the chinese restaurant to show the multiculturalism. I showed that engineering has also developed through the types of cars you can see there. I also show a range of sports equipment which also shows multiculturalism like a hockey stick. I have added animals which WERE native to other countries and show that they are now a part of Australia. I also added the cedar tree to show that it is not any more just native to Lebanon

3. What techniques have you used to reveal these changes (colour, modality, vectors, reading path, symbols, angles, shots, gaze) I used colour modality and also symbols which helped me reveal and make these changes clear.

4. If you used a technique, why did you choose it? How is it effective in creating meaning?
Colour- The original image is black and white and the images which i have appropriated into the picture are all coloured so it shows how Australia has changed and it is also easy to compare to the original image. Modality had the same effect.

Symbols- I used symbols to represent a new race which has joined Australia. E.G. Chinese Restaurant sign shows how Chinese people have came to Australia. The hockey stick is another example it shows how Canadian sports vahe made their way to Australia. Also the kiwi which is bative to New Zealand this symbolises that New Zealanders have also migrated to Australia

Individual appropriation poetry

1. What changes have you made? I have changed the theme from Andy going to gte cattle to Andy going to fight with a rical gang that is the biggest change i have madefrom the original

2. Why? What does it tell us about changes in Australia? It shows how gangs have taken over and how their are alot of fights going on around the nation.

3. What techniques have you used to reveal these changes (metaphors, simile, personification, onomatopoeia) i have used the same rhyming cuplets and i have used similies adn metaphores to show the changes.

4. If you used a technique, why did you choose it? How is it effective in creating meaning? I used the same rhyming cuplets so it is easy to recognise the original. It is effective because even thoufgh it has a completely different meaning it can still be easily compared to the original.

Individual Task 4

1.) Give a brief description of who the Dalai Lama is?The Dalai Lama is the head of state but more importantly the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. Some Buddhist people believe that the Dalai Lama is so spiritually that he is a reincarnation of Buddah. He is also a teacher who teachers anyone who is intrested the Buddhist peoples beliefs and spiritual standards.

2.) Evaluate how the actions of the Dalai Lama in regard to the riots in Tibet would be regarded as exemplary moral integrity.
He was willing to give up his position and basically his whole representative life to draw attention to whole big and how serious these riots are. It is moral integrity because he is willing to sacrifice just to help others in need.

Journal 11

1.) Describe the term ‘interactive TV’. Interactive TV is the new generation of television. It allows you to watch television  as well as getting involved this creates more intrest in watching elevision.
2.) Explain the reasons why interactive TV is now called TV 2.0.  Because it is known as the second generation of television. It is also related to web 2.0 tools because it has some similar features to 2.0 tools. It also makes it easy to tell apart from the old television.
3.) Outline the positives and negatives of implementing interactive TV. Some positives are- It becomes more exciting and allows us to be open and more exxciting for the viewer. It also allows veryone to be open to a wide-range of information and features. Some negatives are it can become complicated. It can also be very misleading and have plenty of hidden costs.
4.) Apple released recently Apple TV – Take 2. Describe the reasons why it needed to be changed.

The reason they had to reformat the iTV was because the colour was either too bright or too dull depending on the rooms lighting. This was a majo problem for viewers.

Jouran Entry 10

1. Explain the purpose of using ‘youtube’ as a source of digital media advertising.

The purpose of posting videos on youtube to advertise  is because youtube is a world wide site that has over 1 million people view it each day this is a good oppurtunity for a company to get their brands name across. Also people can see your companys product and unlike advertising o television the company doesnt have to pay for advertising.

2. Discuss how media collaborative sites such as youtube, myspace, bebo have change the current boundaries of media such as news.

Media collaborative sites have the ability now to spread news and information quickly and more fluently. It also allows ordinary people to post their own personal views on certain topics. All these sites including youtube now allow you to create a network of freinds where you can send videos images and information. This has definatly pushed the boundaries of media because before you could only get the facts now you can have an opinion and you can share your opinion around the world.

3. Provide a link to an advertising commercial on youtube.

This is the famous superbowl AD of pepsi which can be easily found on youtube and is shared between a world wide audience

Individual Task 1

1.) Define the term ‘moral integrity’http://www.unmc.edu/ethics/words.html#M  defines moral integity as  Moral integrity is a complex and subtle ethical notion. As theologian Stanley Hauerwas has argued, it is central to all the other virtues but more fundamental than any single virtue. The root of the term integrity is wholeness. Moral wholeness rather than rigidity best captures the idea of moral integrity. For example, a person might discover that some long-held ethical belief, attitude or rule of conduct was mistaken because the person came to see that it was incompatible with other, more fundamental ethical commitments.2.) Describe why Maximillian Kolbe is regarded as a Christian of exemplary moral integrity.
Maximillian Kolbe is regarded as a Christian who displays moral integrity because when ever he saw someone suffering he always voulenteered to take their place and was always ready and willing to do so. He showed a high level of moral integrity

3.) Outline Maximillians ethical actions/principles that he demonstrated in Auschwitz.
He was always willing to take someones place who was in touble and helped people less fortunate. He always found the need to help people less fortunate then himself and fet sympathetic towards them. Even though he was treated badly and left for dead a lot of times in Auschwitz he always remained faithful.
4.) Evaluate whether you think he made the right decision and provide research to support your answer. i.e. Catholic teachings.
I believe maximilllion’s descion to give up his life for another man was a brave descision and a right descion to make. He felt that there were others who deserved to live more than him so he made a very brave and humble descision to give up his life and tell the guards to take his life instead, and i know for a fact that 99% of people will not make this descion in there life. A catholic principle which supports this is Jesus’s crucificion where jesus gave up his life to free everyone from there sins Maxamillions descion was a lot like Jesus’s descision to die for us

Access to information

The reason why access to information is a positive of the internet is because it allows the user to access a wide range of information around the globe. It also has a wider availability then books so you can see more websites and ultimately gain more information. It also allows the information to be processed faster so you can get a wide range of information in a short space of time.

The reason why accessing information is really easy on the internet is because of certain “tools” like search engines and find tool (control F). You can find a wide range of information just by searching keywords. You can also check which information is more recent and which information is qualified. You can also listen to other users opinions and post up your own opinions.

There are plenty of blogs around the internet, there are also a lot of statistics so you can get back your information with solid facts. For people who are visual learners there is a wide range of videos. The most notable video site is youtube but it is important for users to not limit themselves to just youtube there is also Google video and podcasts. There are also tonnes of pictures around the internet which can help if your a visual learner as well.

Overall you can see that the internet has become an essential part when it comes to accessing informations and it is most peoples number 1 source of information.

Cyber Bullying

 Cyber_ Bullying

The netalert program defines cyber bullying as Bullying which is carried out through an Internet service such as email, chat room, discussion group or instant messaging. It may also include bullying through mobile or SMS. Some examples of cyber bullying are:
Spreading of rumours online
Teasing and being made fun of
Sending unwanted messages
Defamation

Anyone is open to cyber bullying and it is difficult to block or capture the abuser, this is because the abuser can make themselves annonimous.

The reason why cyber bullying is a negative of the internet is because it can be very offensive and damage kids mentally and can lead to them getting hurt phisically or even killed/ kidnapped.

The netalert program provides protection to cyber bullying or it can be really simple to protect yourself just always make sure that you know who you are talking to and try not to meet new people online.

Isafe.org is known to be the leading site in internet safety and shows these statistics of cyber bullying.

  • 42% of kids have been bullied while online. 1 in 4 have had it happen more than once.
  • 35% of kids have been threatened online. Nearly 1 in 5 have had it happen more than once.
  • 21% of kids have received mean or threatening e-mail or other messages.
  • 58% of kids admit someone has said mean or hurtful things to them online. More than 4 out of 10 say it has happened more than once.
  • 53% of kids admit having said something mean or hurtful to another person online. More than 1 in 3 have done it more than once.
  • 58% have not told their parents or an adult about something mean or hurtful that happened to them online.
Based on 2004 i-SAFE survey of 1,500 students grades 4-8I find these statistics to be very alarming! and with some protection hopfully these numbers can be lowered Isafe.org also provides the following tips on how to prevent cyber bullying and here they are:
  • Tell a trusted adult about the bullying, and keep telling until the adult takes action.
  • Don’t open or read messages by cyber bullies.
  • Tell your school if it is school related. Schools have a bullying solution in place.
  • Don’t erase the messages—they may be needed to take action.
  • Protect yourself—never agree to meet with the person or with anyone you meet online.
  • If bullied through chat or instant messaging, the “bully” can often be blocked.
  • If you are threatened with harm, inform the local police. These tips should help people of all ages keep safe on the internet.

1.) Define the term ‘digital media’.
PCmag.com defines “digital media” as either
    (A) Any storage device that holds digital data, including hard and optical discs and USB drives.
(B)Any form of information stored in the computer, including data, voice and video.
(C)Online news, which includes TV network and trade press Web sites, as well as blogs.

The definition which i believe is most relevant is definition A because it is direct and to=the point about digital media.
2.) How has digital media evolved over the last 5-10 years?

Digital media has evolved enourmously over the past 5-10 years all around the world because of demands for faster processing and better features on the internet. Digital media has taken a major step and that was to make it available for download so it has been posted online and is available for download.

3.) Discuss the reasons why digital newspapers are extremely popular?

Digital newspapers are extremely popular in the present day with 72,800 daily columns!! the reason this so so popular is because it is quick available and free. It is also updated quicker than the ” old fashion newspaper” insteaad of waiting a week for updated news you can get it at a click on a website. Also it is easy to search for recent news in a particular area which you enjoy.
