Visual appropriation ( 1940 parliment house)

1. What changes have you made? I have added colour to the picture i have also added pictures of stuff which Australia didnt know about back in the 1940’s e.g.  new cars and animals which have recently been imported from different countries like the kiwi. I also showed the cedar tree which used to only eb able to grow in Lebanon

2. Why? What does it tell us about changes in Australia? I added colour to show that technology has been developed since the 1940’s. I added features like the chinese restaurant to show the multiculturalism. I showed that engineering has also developed through the types of cars you can see there. I also show a range of sports equipment which also shows multiculturalism like a hockey stick. I have added animals which WERE native to other countries and show that they are now a part of Australia. I also added the cedar tree to show that it is not any more just native to Lebanon

3. What techniques have you used to reveal these changes (colour, modality, vectors, reading path, symbols, angles, shots, gaze) I used colour modality and also symbols which helped me reveal and make these changes clear.

4. If you used a technique, why did you choose it? How is it effective in creating meaning?
Colour- The original image is black and white and the images which i have appropriated into the picture are all coloured so it shows how Australia has changed and it is also easy to compare to the original image. Modality had the same effect.

Symbols- I used symbols to represent a new race which has joined Australia. E.G. Chinese Restaurant sign shows how Chinese people have came to Australia. The hockey stick is another example it shows how Canadian sports vahe made their way to Australia. Also the kiwi which is bative to New Zealand this symbolises that New Zealanders have also migrated to Australia

Individual appropriation poetry

1. What changes have you made? I have changed the theme from Andy going to gte cattle to Andy going to fight with a rical gang that is the biggest change i have madefrom the original

2. Why? What does it tell us about changes in Australia? It shows how gangs have taken over and how their are alot of fights going on around the nation.

3. What techniques have you used to reveal these changes (metaphors, simile, personification, onomatopoeia) i have used the same rhyming cuplets and i have used similies adn metaphores to show the changes.

4. If you used a technique, why did you choose it? How is it effective in creating meaning? I used the same rhyming cuplets so it is easy to recognise the original. It is effective because even thoufgh it has a completely different meaning it can still be easily compared to the original.

1.) Define the term ‘digital media’.
PCmag.com defines “digital media” as either
(A) Any storage device that holds digital data, including hard and optical discs and USB drives.
(B)Any form of information stored in the computer, including data, voice and video.
(C)Online news, which includes TV network and trade press Web sites, as well as blogs.

The definition which i believe is most relevant is definition A because it is direct and to=the point about digital media.
2.) How has digital media evolved over the last 5-10 years?

Digital media has evolved enourmously over the past 5-10 years all around the world because of demands for faster processing and better features on the internet. Digital media has taken a major step and that was to make it available for download so it has been posted online and is available for download.

3.) Discuss the reasons why digital newspapers are extremely popular?

Digital newspapers are extremely popular in the present day with 72,800 daily columns!! the reason this so so popular is because it is quick available and free. It is also updated quicker than the ” old fashion newspaper” insteaad of waiting a week for updated news you can get it at a click on a website. Also it is easy to search for recent news in a particular area which you enjoy.

Project Breifcase 23

COMPOSITIONAL:The most salient feature is the ship as it stands out in the picture and is the largest object also its texture and colour makes the ship stand out. they want us to recognize the significance and the colour/power of the ship. The ship in the picture mainly uses golden colours to express wealth and power. The rabbits are white and are dressed to look rich.

Project Breifcase 22 (DPS4)

INTERACTIVE:
Our attention is focused on the massive ship with the rabbits coming out the ship is big and gold and it also has a gazey effect which gives it more attention. The rabbits coming out of the ship are standing up tall with pride and marching towards the aboriginals land, they are equipped with trumpets and dreesed formally.

Project Breifcase 21 (DSP4)

REPRESENTATIONAL:  The big golden ship symbolises the wealth and power of the british (rabbitts). The participants in the double spread page  are the white rabbits which represents the british, and the brown rabbits which are the aboriginals. There is also one of the rabbits planting their flag into the groud and also the big clouds surrounding them symbolises that the british are taking over the land. The reading path of this double page spread start on the ship, it goes up the big front and drops down onto the white rabbits who walking in onto their land it then goes up the back of the ship to the flags that they have represented.

Project Breicase 19

2. Discuss what the meaning of the book is. The meaning of the book is to tel the story of the white settlement in an Aboriginal point of view and also in a fantasy point of view where rabbits represent the british. It show how many fights they had.

The message is that the british soldiers were like rabbits. They bread fast, they build fast, they destroy the environment and they take over where ever they land.

3. Make a list of some visual techniques that you think help create meanings

colour, texture, proposition, gaze, abstract, setting, position.

4. Discuss what you think colours represent in this book. Some dark colours represent war and battles and death of the Aboriginal people alot of colours are very gazey which gives the pictures a great effect.

Draft Preamble

We strongly believe that the constitution should be expanded to include Aboriginal rights.  This statement was backed up by Kevin Rudd when he said “sorry” to the stolen generation. This issue has been all around the media lately in television shows, newspapers and magazine articles. We believe that following this preamble there should be a national referendum held. It is only fair that the Australian public has a chance to vote on equality. Aboriginals should have rights in Australia because of multiple reasons which include:

They are the longest lasting race on this earth spanning over many generations and lasting 1000’s of years. They have a special bond with this land and respect it. They should be treated as equals because they have fought time and time again fro equality sometimes successful and other times they were not so lucky. They are known to be the founder of our country. There are many Aboriginals who have become famous fighting and playing inspiring roles. They did this all for equality, equality with the white man. Kevin Rudd’s speech was a massive step not only for the Aboriginals but for the whole of Australia, However it is not the final step it should be seen as one of many steps which should occur in the weeks to come. This exposition should be the next step taken after this we should expand the constitution to include the Aboriginals and end this equality which “scarred” Australia’s history. We should have a referendum to see if the Australian public wants to extend the constitution to include the Aboriginals and let them share the rights that everyone else takes for granted. This issue has been going on for along time John Howard put some money into the Aboriginal community, but sadly it wasn’t enough. Racism has had its affect on the Aboriginal community as well John Howard’s campaign in 2001 was internationally recognised as a racist campaign this had a huge effect on the Aboriginal community. It is a new era now in Australia with a new leader, and under Mr. Rudd’s leadership we can all come together as one community and stop this racism. This step will certainly reunite the Aboriginals not only with their land and home country but it will also unite them with the Australian people and they will be able to form a relationship with the white man that should have been formed 100 years ago. I think one problem that might occur when the constitution is expanded to include the Aboriginals is that the Aboriginal culture which is the oldest and longest lasting culture in not only Australia but in the whole world is that their culture might be lost. This will be a huge shock seeing as though their culture is very rich and spiritual if anything I believe that not only Australia but the world can learn and adopt some assets of the Aboriginal culture. Aboriginals have been fighting fro their land rights in many different forms. Some of these forms are Graffiti, rallying, Rioting and media campaigns like television ads and newspaper ads. The Aboriginal flag is also another way the Aboriginals have been campaigning the designer of the flag Harold Thomas has made statements like the design came out of passion and the Aboriginal flag stands alone it is not a secondary flag of Australia. What he is trying to say is that the Aboriginal flag is a symbol of Aboriginals and it is their main and most significant symbol. The Aboriginal dreamtime is also very inspirational and tells many stories of life I believe that these stories should be better known in the Australian culture because they are the first stories ever told in Australia’s history. For those Australians who know little about Aboriginal culture or history there are a lot of sites set up like http://www.aboriginalculture.com.au/ and also they can view this site http://www.aboriginalhistory.org/ there is also a channel set up which is all about the indigenous people this is channel “180” and is called NITV which stands fro “National indigenous television”. This channel is totally dedicated to the Aboriginals and their culture there are a wide range of shows which show Aboriginal culture everything from Aboriginal cooking to Aboriginal under 16s rugby league. There is one problem with this channel it is only available on “foxtel digital” so it is only for people who are paying fro extra channels I believe that it should be on every TV so that everyone has an opportunity to learn about the Aboriginal culture. This channel was only recently introduced which shows that Australia is working hard to get the Aboriginal culture back. There are a lot of surveys around the internet about Aboriginal children and their health and the results overall are appalling. This is probably because of a lack of funding, and Aboriginal tribe rules and morals. 1 of them states that what ever you have belongs to the tribe which can become a problem. The Aboriginals have had to deal with being mistreated fro 100s of years and that is far too long so we as a nation should put a stop to this and rid the on going battle of equality. Aboriginals are currently participating in a lot of sports like league, soccer and AFL but it was not always like this that is another example of how we have improved as a nation but it shouldn’t stop yet we should continue to keep moving forward with our bid for equality.

Overall you can see how much the Aboriginals have been mistreated in their past. They used to be very happy living as one with the land until the “White man” came I believe that together we can unite as one nation and stop this racism. This preamble should lead to a national referendum so the Australian Government can see how passionate and eager the whole Australian public is to expand the constitution to include the Aboriginals. Hopefully we can all pull together as a nation and become equals!
